Established in 2018, Montana Backcountry Yurts acquired the YurtSki operation in the Swan mountains and expanded to the Big Belt mountains with the construction of the Big Belt Hut in Fall 2018.

Who We Are

Brad Maddock Owner & Operator

Brad grew up in Colorado and is the director of the outdoor program at Carroll College in Helena, MT. Brad, his wife Sarah, their son Will, and dog Olive, are avid outdoor recreationalists and enjoy backcountry skiing, mountain biking, rock and ice climbing, whitewater rafting, fly fishing, trail running, backpacking, and packrafting with friends in their free time. As an outdoor educator at Carroll College, Brad is passionate about introducing and teaching others how to safely and responsibly enjoy the same outdoor pursuits that he himself enjoys.
Loves: Catching snowflakes. Deep powder skiing.
Dislikes: The monsters in his closet.

Kyle Perkins Owner & Operator

Kyle grew up in Helena, MT and works part time as a solar installer. In his off-time, he is passionate about design and building, and has built several cabins and houses, including his own home. A native Montanan, Kyle loves to share his deep respect and enthusiasm for our public lands, and encourage sustainable use and low-impact practices.
Loves: Wood fired hot tubs. Deep powder skiing.
Dislikes: Sand

Jennings Anderson Owner & CTO

Jennings Anderson is currently a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. He grew up skiing, mountain biking, and climbing across Colorado and Montana. While in college, he led students on climbing, ski, and backpacking trips throughout Montana. A passionate backcountry skier and outdoor recreator, he hopes to ensure backcountry access for future generations through sustainable outdoor-stewardship.
Loves: A good beard. Droppin' knees in deep pow.
Dislikes: Walks on the beach
