Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do you heat the yurts?

All of our yurts include wood-burning stoves. The Big Belt Hut has a fully-stocked woodshed and the Alpine and Lupine yurts have covered wood piles for snow protection. We provide axes and mauls for splitting.

What about cooking at the yurts?

We provide fully-stocked kitchens at each of the yurts with plates, bowls, mugs, cups, and flatware for the full hut capacity. We have cast-iron pans, stainless steel pots, and knives.

What time is Check-In/Check-Out?

12pm. Please ensure that the yurt is swept, disinfected, and your stuff is out by noon. If you're headed skiing or hiking before heading back to the trailhead, please stash your gear out of the way of any incoming guests who may be arriving that day.

Do you have Gift Certificates?
Yes! Gift Certificates
Where can I rent backcountry skiing and snowboarding equipment?

Missoula: MT Ski Tech: Skis, boots, beacon, shovel, and probe @ $229 for a four day trip when you mention YurtSki. Last Best Ski & Paddle has Black Crow AT skis or Weston Splitboards with Spark bindings (beacons, shovels, probes also available)

Bozeman: Uphill Pursuits can put together a backcountry ski set up, or check out World Boards for a backcoutnry snowboard set up.

Can I bring my dog?

Not in the winter. We ask you to please leave your four-legged friends at home when going to YurtSki or the Big Belt Hut in the winter. We are concerned about sanitation of the yurts and availability of clean snow for melting (Big Belt Hut). Also, the long snowmobile approach is extremely hard on dogs. We highly recommend SkyHi Kennel if you'd like to board the pup while you're out skiing, it's where we send our furry friends.

In the summer, you can bring up to 2 dogs to the Big Belt Hut. Since they can spend more time outside and more easily accompany you on your outdoor adventures, they're welcome! Please keep them off the beds.
